Backstage Capitol

Backstage Capital all set up for an event.

Built in 1933 the Capitol theatre was a focal point in the community for close to 40 years. One of several theatres owned and operated by Robert Hambleton of Simcoe. Originally the theatre was to be built on Main St. but before construction started a property on King St. became available and the theatre was built there instead. By the 1940’s two theatre’s operated side by side when a competitor the Imperial Theatre was built right beside the Capitol. In the late 1960’s the Capitol theatre closed it’s doors, and was converted to the Golden Leaf restaurant which remained in operation until late 1990’s when it closed it doors and sat vacant for several years. Backstage Capitol Theatre had its grand opening May 2009 on the 75th anniversary of the original opening of the movie theatre.

The Backstage Capitol is a sought after location for both private and corporate functions.   The theatre also plays host to many live stage acts and regularly has weekend dinner shows.   Details of all upcoming shows can be found at
